Alrighty, where do I start...

New to forum...I have a 2004 Outlander XLS which has the 2.4 SOHC MIVEC engine, 4 speed automatic/manual transmission, and AWD. I am planning a turbo build for a summer project and would just like some input on if you know if anyone has done this yet? I know reflashing would be more or less the last step in this build but I just want to be prepared and have everything figured out beforehand. Correct me if I am wrong, but after reading the ralliart forums for a while, I figured I will need a tactrix open port 2.0 tool, a Mitsubishi adapter, and send in my ecu because of it being an 04. Also wondering, could just buy another ECU to send in so I could still drive the vehicle? Thanks for any input!

Yes, tactrix. I am reasonably certain I could add the turbo patches to an outlander ROM. Sending the ECU is not necessary on the Lancers but I normally upgrade the firmware to support the VIN. I'm not sure about the Outlander so that's more difficult. I think it would be best to purchase an additional ECU and try it before sending in your original. You could even try getting a 2005 outlander auto ecu.

Okay I'm going to shop around for a used 05 ecu then. So theoretically I should be able to just plug the 05 ecu in to check to see if it works. If it does, you can send me the rehash and I wouldn't have to send in any ecu?

Yes, this is the idea. The thing is, I don't have a lot of experience doing outlanders so I'm assuming that the ECU hardware and software features evolved the same as the Lancer. If the 2004 Outlander supports VIN coding then you won't even need the separate ecu. I'm also assuming that if the 2004 ecu doesn't have VIN then the 2005 does.

While searching for a used ECU, I've noticed they separate 04s from the 05-06s as far as fitment so I'm assuming the 04 might not have vin coding...is that how they are with the ralliart?

Hi,

This is the case, but the hardware on the Lancer is mostly compatible.
